News
of Ciaran Sheehan from Broadway World - Thursday 19th April 2007
The
tale of the Molly Maguires, which was made into a successful Paramount
movie in the late 60's, will soon have a new incarnation. A new musical, entitled
The Molly Maguires, will have its premiere at the F.M. Kirby Center for
the Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
This special 4 performance run
is part of a month-long festival celebrating the achievements of Northeastern
Pennsylvania's coal miners and, especially, their contribution to the advancement
of social justice in the United States. Set in 1877 in the coal fields of Pennsylvania,
The Molly Maguires is the tale of a secret society of immigrant
Irish mine workers who fight against prejudice and injustice in the mining industry.
Jim Burke, who was the chief financial officer of Paramount Pictures when
The Molly Maguires was made, is at the helm of this new production. Burke,
who hales from Wilkes-Barre and whose heritage is steeped in the Mollies tradition,
decided to bring this work home to its roots. The book is by William Strzempek;
music and lyrics by Sid Cherry; direction by Sheryl Kaller; production design
by Charles Corcoran and lighting by Michael Gilliam. John McDaniel (best known
as Rosie O'Donnell's musical director) is musical director and conductor.
Heading
the cast of The Molly Maguires is Ciaran Sheehan. Other major roles
are to be played by Thom Sesma, Leah Hocking, William Parry, Donna Lynne Champlin,
Ken Jennings and Elena Shaddow. The newly completed production culminates Anthracite
Heritage Month in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Tickets for The Molly Maguires
are priced at $65, $55, $40 and $30 (for students). They can be purchased at the
F.M. Kirby Center Box Office (71 Public Square), by phone (570-826-1100), or online
at www.kirbycenter.org. The Molly Maguires will be performed on Thursday April
26th and Friday April 27th at 7:30 pm and Saturday, April 28th at 2 pm and 7:30

"The Irish Tenors
and Friends" press coverage today (2nd June 2006)
Many of the
Irish newspapers today have pieces on The Irish Tenors and their new TV show (most
accompanied by photos of the group) starting this evening .
A number have
the show as their "Pick of the Day"
Here are some excerpts:
The
Irish Tenors and Friends
"Ireland's favourite classy guys are back
on the television screens tonight with a brand new show.
The Irish Tenors -
Anthony Kearns, Karl Scully and the fabulous Finbar Wright - have been given 10
weeks in which to tease, tantalise and delight us with their vocal prowess.
Throughout
the series the lads will be performing Irish classics, popular standards, show
tunes and light opera.
They will be joined each week by a special guest and
the line-up already includes X Factor winner Shayne Ward, Andrew LLoyd Webber,
Sharon Shannon, You're a Star winner Lucia Evans and young tenor "upstart"
Payl Byrom. Tonight Belfast-born Brian Kennedy is the star attraction, performing
for the first time since his honourable showing on Eurovision last month.

Trio
Are On Song
"The Irish Tenors, namely Anthony Kearns, Finbar Wright

evening.
They'll be joined by a host of musical guests including pop smoothie
Shayne Ward and musical king Andrew Llyod Webber. And tonight they take the stage
with Eurovision entrant Brian Kennedy.
If you combine the soulful croonings
of Belfast's Brian with the three biggest voices around then surely you're bound
to be onto a winner.
And one thihrd of the world-famous classical singers,
Finbar Wright revealed they'll be letting their hari down by belting out some
modern hits.
He said: "The show will take that stiff look off the group
which you normally expect when you see singers dressed in tails" The
