WAS utter adulation." That's
how music manager Tony Byrne described Finbarr Wright's concert
in the Cork Opera House on Sunday night last. The Cork tenor wowed the crowd on his first solo tour since 1999 and boy were they happy to see him back home. The Ovens man did well and if the truth be known, such was the demand for tickets, he could have played to full houses for a week. Finbarr, who is also a member of the internationally renowned Three Tenors, said he was delighted to be back in Cork. "We have been packed out in every venue on this tour but it was really special to get such a warm welcome from the Cork audience," he added. And those lucky enough to be in the audience came from all over the city and county to see him. Hanna Falvey was at the concert with Anna Russell and Lily O'Flynn, while another three tenors, Jim O'Connell, Paddy Lane and Bernard Forde, were among those who thoroughly enjoyed the show. Identical twins Cathy McCarthy and Mary Walsh were also spotted at the concert. With the pair were Mary O'Mahony, Helen Butler and Lyn McCarthy. There was one very special member of the audience who had a proud but modest smile on her face throughout the night and that was Finbarr's mother Julia. Mrs Wright was at the Opera House with Claire Wright, Ber Buckley and Sheila Whelton. Another Wright spotted in the crowd was Linda Wright, who was there with Sheila Curran, Jacinta Crowley and Daniel Galvin. As Finbarr was thronged by his fans, Tony Byrne described the event as 'sensational'. "It's been like the prodigal son coming home. I've been around a long time and have seen many performers but this show was something special. He has such a wonderful charm. If we could bottle it, we could make a fortune," joked Tony. Finbarr is now having a few days well-earned rest at home and then he prepares for the RTE Summer Series and a tour of America with the Three Tenors in August. It was indeed a special concert. Let's just hope Finbarr will be back home again sooner rather than later. | ||
