![]() A delightful programme of Irish songs, popular opera, and well loved melodies of a golden age can be heard in Mullingar Arts Centre on Sunday February 18 when Irish tenor Anthony Kearns plays in concert. From haunting songs of emigration to the stirring music of the Troubles, Anthony Kearns sings Irish music like no one else. He is the true Irish Tenor, cut from the same piece of linen as John McCormack. Known as ‘the man in the middle’ of the internationally successful ‘The Irish Tenors’ who are still wooing audiences throughout the world, Anthony has been part of the group’s phenomenon since its conception. Anthony has performed for numerous presidents and dignitaries throughout the world. Along with producing over eight CD recordings and the renowned ‘Ellis Island Tribute’ DVD with Martin Sheen, Anthony was recently acclaimed for his portrayal in the title role of Faust for Opera Ireland’s 2006 Spring Season in Dublin, which has been nominated for best production in The Irish Times Theatre Awards. Anthony is no stranger to Irish audiences, performing to full houses throughout Ireland with ‘The Irish Tenors’ over the past number of years. Last year saw him perform with singer Linda Rondstadt and the Chicagoland Pops Orchestra in Chicago. During the summer recording of ‘The Irish Tenors and Friends’, Anthony was given the honour of interviewing and performing with world-renowned composer Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. In September he was invited to pay tribute to John Count McCormack for the tribute concerts at the National Concert Hall in Dublin and the University Concert Hall in Limerick. His long time friend Patrick Healy will be his accompanist for his first solo Irish Tour and as well as twinkling the ivories he will be regaling the audiences with his hilarious anecdotes. This is a night not to be missed with Ireland’s leading tenor. Anthony Kearns will play Mullingar Arts Centre on Sunday February 18.
